New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes did the anti-Ted Williams on Wednesday when he bunted for a base hit in the first inning of the Mets game today and then asked his manager to take him out of the game to help him win the National League Hitting Title with a .337 average.

Sports commentators and fans alike unloaded at Reyes on Twitter for his ‘Bush-League’ behavior:

Mike Barnicle – @mikebarnicle – On this day in 1941 Ted Williams refused to sit and ended with .406 BA. This day in 2011 Jose Reyes quit after 1 AB to win NL batting title.

Jim Rome – @jimrome – Jose Reyes?! Are you kidding me? I hope Ryan Braun goes 4-4. And Matt Kemp goes 15-17. Laying down a bunt single and call it a day is weak.

Tim Sullivan – @sdutSullivan – Pulling Jose Reyes after one at bat to ensure batting title dishonors memory of Ted Williams, who played his last game 51 years ago today.

Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun went 0-4 tonight to lose the batting title to Reyes .332 to .337

Dockett was wearing the shirt after losing a bet with Bayless over who would win the Oklahoma – Florida State football game last weekend. Oklahoma won 23-13.

Dockett played his college ball at Florida State. If FSU had won, Bayless would have had to wear a LeBron James jersey on the air for ESPN’s First Take where Bayless is a controversial ‘expert’ pot-stirrer. Bayless was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

ESPN NFL analyst Merril Hoge was scathing in his opinion of Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow earlier tonight on ESPN.

Some would argue that Hoge was just doing his job while others thought he was just looking for ways to slam Tebow.

Merril slammed Tebow on Twitter in this fashion:

“Sitting watching tape off bronco offense from last year! Orton or Tebow? It’s embarrassing to think the broncos could win with tebow!!”

Hoge had the following to add about Tebow on ESPN:

“He is awful as far as accuracy goes and what’s kind of even more disturbing, he’s probably worse moving and running around with the football and throwing than he is from the pocket,” Hoge said. “Can you get better there? A little bit. If everything is perfect, the pocket, your feet are good, all your fundamentals come into place, the coverage is what you want it, you can be successful. But that doesn’t happen at the National Football League. Rarely does that happen.”

Tebow sarcastically thanked Hoge via Twitter:

Hey Merril…… ‘ppreciate that

Then unexpectedly LeBron James unleashed a series of tweets in Tim’s defense:

Tim Tebow will succeed in the NFL. He’s a hard worker, a student of the game, a natural born leader and most of all a WINNER! It takes time and he’ll be nice

Listened to Merril Hoge today on SC and he was just blasting Tebow. The man hasn’t even play a full season and its only his 2nd year in.

Guys get on that TV and act like they was all WORLD when they played. How bout encouraging him and wishing him the best instead of hating!!

James is right though. Tim has been successful at nearly everything he has performed in life, even down to helping give circumcisms in the Phillipines while doing missionary work.

Tebow has just played his rookie year and showed promise over the three games he started. He also showed that he had a lot of work to do as well to complete the transition to the NFL. It’s also hard to believe that anyone out there is outworking Tim Tebow in the offseason or in-season.

Nice PR move by LeBron for the deeply beloved Tebow. But in some ways Tebow is very polarizing and might have taken the polarizing QB mantle from the on-again, off-again retired Brett Favre.

St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa, who had a strangled relationship with former outfielder stud-in-waiting Colby Rasmus, unloaded on the disgruntled player this afternoon once Colby’s trade to the Toronto Blue Jays went through.

Rasmus has been a clubhouse distraction since he came to the big leagues. His father, Tony Rasmus, has also head-butted with LaRussa and intermingled within the organization in a very troubling way over the years.

St. Louis Post Dispatch beat writer Bernie Miklasz tweeted the following two quotes from LaRussa:

La Russa on the opinion that he can’t work with young players: “Paying attention to nonsense is counter-productive.”

La Russa on Rasmus and young players: “it can be tough for them to take coaching. They’ve been spoiled.”

In answering my question it was obvious that La Russa has been bothered by the perceived interference of Colby’s father, Tony Rasmus.

La Russa denied that he forced the trade to get rid of Ramus. “Absolutely not.”

It seems Tony held his tongue long enough. Will Colby ever mature and turn into the superstar that many believe he is talented enough to become? Time will tell!

However, I believe Rasmus is the second coming of J.D. Boo (Drew)!!!

The NBA Finals seemed to take the untouchability off of LeBron James as he faltered and became the joke of sportswriters and sports fans across the globe.

James display of mortality seemed to open up the inner comedian in everyone.

Now even fellow players, fellow NBA All-Stars, don’t hold back in taking cracks at the aptly mis-titled ‘King.’

Orlando Magic star center Dwight Howard joked on Twitter yesterday about LeBron’s receding hairline.

Howard tweeted a series of ‘planking’ photos, including one of him planking while his barber trimmed his hair.

Howard’s barber, Kevin Tyler, then tweeted an @reply to Howard that stated, “You better stop before your shape up looks like Lebrons.”

Dwight then immediately replied via twitter to Tyler, “lol he took his talents to south beach and left his hairline in Cleveland lol.”

Funny line by Howard but not something many, if any NBA players, would have publicly stated a year ago when James was held in such high reverence.

LeBron will likely get the last laugh though. Howard, with his lack of rings and premature exit from the 2011 NBA Playoffs, should be careful joking about royalty, even as misguided as the crown might be.

Fans of the VCU Rams have enjoyed sticking it to ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale the past three weeks as their team has, against all odds, kept winning to advance to the NCAA Final Four.

Vitale, in Dickie V fashion, ranted and raved on Selection Sunday when it was announced that VCU had made the tournament. He threw a big fit of disbelief that they had made the tournament.

Vitale, now famously stated, when ranting about VCU getting in over Colorado, “It would be like a beauty contest. Roseanne Barr walking in versus Scarlett Johansson. No shot, none whatsoever!!” (Watch the Video Below)

That was five NCAA Tourney wins ago for the Rams. They play the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday in the Final Four for a chance to play for the National Championship on Monday.

So you can imagine the excitement of Rams fans to the chagrin of Vitale. But Dickie V has tried to be a good sport.

He has posted photos on his Twitter account this morning. One of him wearing a VCU Rams Final Four sweatshirt in a gift shop and another photo flanked by VCU fans, while holding a Rams placard.

At least Dick is trying to make amends for his remarks. It’s not that they were that absurd. VCU probably didn’t belong in the tourney. But they have been one of the four best teams this March. Congrats to them!

Is anyone else watching this? In an NFL Combine press conference, Jets Head Coach, Rex Ryan, has just guaranteed that his team will win Super Bowl XLVI.

#EA Rex: “I thought we’d win it the first two years,” he says of the Super Bowl. “I guarantee we’ll do it this year.”

Now, it’s not the first time Ryan has made guarantees. He guaranteed the Jets were better than the New England Patriots, and the team proved it by knocking the Pats out of the playoffs in Foxboro. That is, after the Jets were destroyed by New England in the regular season.

The problem is, Rex Ryan is in danger of becoming a caricature of himself if he keeps up this bravado without consistently backing it up. He should remember that great coaches do their talking on the field. If the Jets, again, fail to make the Super Bowl, do fans just blow it off as Rex being Rex. Or are there actual consequences for running your mouth too much. I get the strong feeling that, in New York, there are.
