The same thing happened with Owens back in 2006 when he took 35 Vicodin and later claimed he just had a bad reaction to the pain pills.

Earlier today, Marvin Lewis of the Bengals signed a two-year extension to keep coaching Cincinnati through 2012. Lewis has been the head coach of the Bengals since 2003. According to USAToday:

The Bengals announced that Lewis had re-signed with the team. His contract had expired with the end of the 2010 season, and Lewis proclaimed himself a free agent after Sunday’s finale.

By Tuesday however, after extensive meetings with team owner Mike Brown, Lewis was happy to be with the Bengals on a new two-year deal.

The Bengals coach said he and Brown reached agreement on ideas to make the franchise better.

The ideas, he said, will “make this a football team that not only goes to the playoffs but wins world championships.”

Lewis wouldn’t talk about specifics of where improvements in the franchise will occur.

But he said both he and Brown want to get more production out of the Bengals’ young players.

The first ‘idea’ Lewis should have is getting rid of his two prima donna wideouts, Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco, and concentrate on injecting some excellent young character into the Bengals organization. Neither one of these players has been good for Cincinnati. They both finished the year injured and Owens has been all but a bust as a free agent pickup.

I guess we’ll see soon enough if the next couple of years are any different than the last eight.

The NFL Pulse Awards is allowing fans to vote for their favorite players in three different categories: Emerging Player, Comeback Player and Heart of the Game. Like any fan list, there are a few perfectly reasonable names included. However, the site has chosen to place some players in rather odd categories.

Peyton Hillis, running back/wrecking machine for the Cleveland Browns is listed as a “Comeback Player”. He was drafted in 2009 and traded by the Denver Broncos at the beginning of 2010. How could he possibly be considered a “comeback” player when his career hadn’t even started. 2009 was nothing more than a typical rookie learning curve year. At the very least, he should be listed under the “Emerging Player” category.

If stats are what matters for a “comeback”, why list Terrell Owens and ignore Matt Cassel of the Kansas City Chiefs? Cassel threw 16 TDs and 16 interceptions last year. He’s on pace for 28 TDs and 6 interceptions this year. Or what about Darren McFadden of the Oakland Raiders? After two injury-plagued seasons, he’s become the engine that makes the entire Raiders offense run.

Oh well. Fans will be fans. The actual award ceremony takes place February 3, 2011 from 6pm-10pm at the Hyatt Recency in Dallas, TX.

According to the Associated Press, Cincinnati Bengals wideout Terrell Owens has reverted to form – or at least his mouth did. No longer content to keep quiet about his team’s 2-11 record on the heels of a 10 game losing streak, TO told teammate Chad Ochocinco Tuesday why he thinks the Bengals have struggled this season.

“You start with the owner, you start with the coaches. And obviously we as players, we are a product of what the coaches are coaching us throughout the course of the week. Of course, we have to go out there and play the game. But in order for us to do what we’re allowed to do at the best of our abilities, the coaches have to put the players in the best position.”

The Bengals finished the 2009 season 10-6 but lost to the New York Jets in the first round of the playoffs. TO was signed to a one-year contract to help the Bengals get over that wild card hump. But like so many free agent signings involving soon-to-be 37 year old divas, it hasn’t quite worked out the way the Bengals would have liked. That said, no one predicted this epic collapse.

Houston Texans’ Andre Johnson is perhaps the best WR in the NFL. He is respected by all, and unlike Terrell Owens or Chad Ochocinco, he goes about his business and doesn’t whine or complain.

Titans DB Cortland Finnegan is very good at what he does as well. He is even better at getting under opponent’s skin, playing dirty, and irritating not just the opposition but even his own teammates and Titans fans from time to time.

So almost every NFL fan enjoyed watching Johnson rip Finnegan’s helmet off and throwing several punches to the noggin of Finnegan during the Texans blowout win against the Titans on Sunday.

Finnegan is probably lucky there was officials and teammates to break that up before Johnson broke him. Finally, someone stood up to Cortland. Will that cause Finnegan to back down the way he plays? Probably not!

Show and Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch.

Will life on the same field for this obnoxious duo be more like Survivor, The Hills, or Temptation Island?

Owens should be humbled by the fact that almost every other team passed on him. If he works hard and accepts his role as the #2 or #3 receiver behind Chad Ochocinco then he could be a valuable piece to the team and quarterback Carson Palmer.

Critics of the Bengals will point out that Owens addition to Ochocinco and bad boys Pacman Jones, Matt Jones, Tank Johnson, Cedric Benson, and Frostee Rucker.

Hopefully Owens has already penned Ochocinco a thank you card for persuading his Bengals to sign him.

NFL Commish Roger Goodell better keep his cellphone nearby this season.

Retired NFL player Rodney Harrison, who currently is an analyst on NBC Sunday Night Football, took an on-air shot at Buffalo Bills WR Terrell Owens when he described Owens as a:

“straight-up clown more interested in stats than winning.”

Owens wasted no time, immediately going to his Twitter account (@terrellowens) to call Harrison out on his use of steroids (actually busted/suspended for HGH use for the first four games in 2007 ). Owens took a tweet shot at Harrison last night and has continued non-stop all morning against Harrison, who won a NFL Super Bowl while a member of the New England Patriots.

Owens Tweets Hitting Harrison High and Hard:

I could less about Rodney Harrison! Anybody tht using steroids, yes STEROIDS rodney, is a cheater & cheated the game!

Is tht Y u used steroids b/c u were worried about ur stats or ws it b/c u were losing it? Lol! U’re a loser & a cheater? Got any steroids I cn borrow?

Hey rodney! Send me sum steroids 2 the Bills facility next week!

Since I kno the media reads my tweets, will sum1 ask rodney how long the cycles take b4 I feel results of the steroids whn he sends em? Lol!

So Rodney, I’m thinking if u overnite it 2day, I’ll get em by 2morr @ noon. Better yet, mark it Priority!! I “really” wanna b a CHAMPION like u!!

Hey Rodney if I really considered using them, could u please lv instructions on how & where 2 stick the needle just like u did 2 assure I do it rite!

My bad Rodney! I hv been corrected by ur supporters, u used HGH nt steroids! So, every1 go ahead & use HGH!! Geez, I guess tht makes it better 2 use!!

Harrison was voted the ‘dirtiest player’ in the NFL several times by fellow players in Sports Illustrated polls. He was suspended and fined several times for dirty and illegal hits on the field.

More power to Owens for busting Harrison’s chops. NBC is dumb for putting Harrison on the air. Harrison is an idiot for taking shots against active players. To me it breaks the player code a bit.

Owens might be goofy and an extremely selfish player, but no one can doubt his talent or achievements on the field over the years. He is a Hall-of-Famer and by all accounts has worked hard in the gym to sculpt his greek god-like body.

Harrison was a dirty player, cheating on the field and likely just as much off of it to obtain every advantage he could to dominate on it.

No way this saga is over yet. Stay tuned for updates from Owens and to see if Harrison gets in a rebuttal as well.

Washington Redskins bench warmer extraordinaire Robert Henson had one of the bigger Twitter fails in pro-athlete tweeting on Sunday after the Skins 9-7 win over the lowly St. Louis Rams. Many Redskins fans during the second half booed presumably over the play calling of head coach Jim Zorn.

Henson, who has yet to ever play a down in the NFL, took to tweeting his frustrations after the game, and in the process called Redskins fans “dim wits” and made fun of them for working at “Mcdonalds.”

All you fake half hearted Skins fan can . . . I won’t go there, but I dislike you very strongly, don’t come to Fed Ex to boo dim wits!!

No I didn’t play but I still made more than you in a year and you’d (gladly) switch spots with me in a second. …

I was talking to the fans (who) said the crazy stuff, I’m use (to heckling) but I’ve never been booed in my own stadium.

Again, that was for the half hearted but if everyone wants to jump in, come on. The question is who are you to say you know what’s best for the team, and you work 9 to 5 at Mcdonalds [sic].

Henson humbly described himself in his Twitter bio as “one of the top performers” from Texas Christian.

I am a husband, father, and football player to sum it all up. I just finished college at Texas Christian University where I was one of the top performers.

I say 6th round draft picks who have yet to play a single minute in the NFL should quit pretending to be a somebody in the league before they are quickly 86′ed out of the league. It is one thing for Terrell Owens or Chad Ochocinco to rant on Twitter, but Henson is a nobody and if anything put his current job in jeopardy with his loose fingers.

Some of the funnier Twitter responses to @RedskinsLB51 (Henson) on Twitter:
