The Chicago Bulls made it 4-in-a-row cruising into the All-Star break by beating the NBA-leading San Antonio Spurs 109-99.  Derrick Rose was on fire, scoring 42 points for a career high.  ESPN reports:

Once again hearing “M-V-P! M-V-P!” chants, Rose was at his best when San Antonio challenged Chicago in the fourth quarter. He had 13 points in the final period, answering Spurs baskets with acrobatic drives and long jumpers.

Rose’s long jumper as the shot clock expired with 3:21 left gave Chicago a 101-90 lead and took the steam out of one San Antonio rally. He also finished with eight assists and five rebounds.

Luol Deng had 19 points and Carlos Boozer finished with 15 for Chicago, which shot 54 percent in its fourth consecutive win. The Bulls improved to 38-16 after winning 41 games last season.

Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili combined for 42 points for a San Antonio team that had won 6 of its last 7.  No wonder these guys have a league-leading record.  Tim Duncan finished the game with 14 points and 9 rebounds.  He’ll be replacing Yao Ming in the All-Star Game.

The NBA season is long and there’s still some basketball yet to play.  With the Celtics hot on their heals, the Spurs need to win ones like these to hold on to home court advantage.

The Dallas Mavericks didn’t exactly squeak by the Phoenix Suns 112-106, but there were some tense moments in the final two minutes of the game.  The Mavericks were able to milk their lead just enough with the help of 35 points from Dirk Nowitzki who had 19 in the first half.  Dallas has now won 3-in-a-row going into the All-Star break.

To complement his growing catalog of cheap shots, Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics decided to punch Channing Frye of the Phoenix Suns directly in the crotch during a jump shot.  Garnett, who looked innocently clueless after the dirty play, was promptly ejected.  Hey, if that’s one of the moves you need to learn to be a great basketball player in the NBA, I could probably be a coach.

This is one of the craziest dunk videos ever.  At a Phoenix Suns game, a tiny entertainer gets a little over zealous with his off-the-trampoline dunk and ends up going through the basket head first.  Check it out.
