He called it “an honest mistake”.  It was an over-the-counter supplement which contained dehydroepiandrosterone, a steroid precursor known as DHEA which just happens to be banned by the NBA.  But his proclamation of innocence and ignorance didn’t save Memphis Grizzlies’ guard OJ Mayo from receiving a 10-game suspension.  According to ESPN:

His suspension will begin with Friday night’s game between the Grizzlies and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Mayo said in a statement released by the team that he is extremely disappointed he will miss 10 games as the Grizzlies are making a push for the playoffs.

It’s hard to believe a guy who makes over $3.2 million per year and is slated to lose about 405 grand over 10 games doesn’t have somebody making sure he doesn’t screw up is ‘diet’.  Either that or he’s just an idiot.  And it’s not as if the suspension is unprecedented.  Rashard Lewis was suspended 10 games last season for the same infraction.

I know you’ve been riding the bench a little lately, OJ, but is it really worth 400 large?  Every team needs backup guards.  Work hard and do your time. Eat right, stay away from the ‘roids and when it’s time to retire, just retire.  Surely you’ll have plenty of jack to fall back on.  Unless, of course, you like throwing hundreds of thousands of dollars away on stupid decisions.

Boston Red Sox designated roider David Ortiz is being sued by the current king of Harlem and rap Jay-Z for naming a club in his native Dominican Republic after Hova’s line of 40/40 clubs that Z  originally started in Manhattan.

I’m sure it didn’t help matters that Z is a New York native and major Yankees fan.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in Manhattan Federal Court, accuses Ortiz of calling his Santo Domingo club Forty-Forty in the hopes of trading on the rap star’s fame.

Jay-Z’s string of bars can be found in Manhattan, Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

The name of the club, 40/40, as most baseball fans know represents a player that hits at least 40 home runs and steals 40 bases in the same season.

There has only been 4 players to accomplish this feat in the history of baseball.

The first being Jose Canseco, the master of roids.  The other three are Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, and Alfonso Soriano.  Bonds and Rodriguez of course have been linked to the performance enhancing drug as well.

Ortiz, never known as a speedster and a mediocre home run hitter since he was busted for steroids, should have more accurately called his own club the 18/0 club.

Retired NFL player Rodney Harrison, who currently is an analyst on NBC Sunday Night Football, took an on-air shot at Buffalo Bills WR Terrell Owens when he described Owens as a:

“straight-up clown more interested in stats than winning.”

Owens wasted no time, immediately going to his Twitter account (@terrellowens) to call Harrison out on his use of steroids (actually busted/suspended for HGH use for the first four games in 2007 ). Owens took a tweet shot at Harrison last night and has continued non-stop all morning against Harrison, who won a NFL Super Bowl while a member of the New England Patriots.

Harrison was voted the ‘dirtiest player’ in the NFL several times by fellow players in Sports Illustrated polls. He was suspended and fined several times for dirty and illegal hits on the field.

More power to Owens for busting Harrison’s chops. NBC is dumb for putting Harrison on the air. Harrison is an idiot for taking shots against active players. To me it breaks the player code a bit.

Owens might be goofy and an extremely selfish player, but no one can doubt his talent or achievements on the field over the years. He is a Hall-of-Famer and by all accounts has worked hard in the gym to sculpt his greek god-like body.

Harrison was a dirty player, cheating on the field and likely just as much off of it to obtain every advantage he could to dominate on it.
