Veteran sportscaster Bob Costas interviewed the notorious Jerry Sandusky on Brian Williams’ Rock Center with Brian Williams tonight via phone while Sandusky’s attorney, Joseph Amendola, sat next to Costas.

In the video, Sandusky denies sexually abusing young boys. He hesitates when asked if he is sexually attracted to underage boys and tries to dance around it.

He said Paterno NEVER said a word to him about anything relating to him and young boys.

Sandusky told Costas, “No, I don’t think it’s my fault. I’ve obviously played a part in this.”

Sandusky says that the Mike McQueary’s accusation of him raping a 10-year old boy in the Penn State locker room shower is incorrect. Sandusky claims that him and the boy were just horsing around, slapping towels against each other.

ESPN’s Colin Cowherd and CBS have joined forces to make another crappy sitcom.  It will likely be positioned after one of CBS’s two hits: How I Met Your Mother.  Apparently, CBS has to do this because no sitcom produced by the network in the last 4 years has survived on its own.  The other good sitcom on CBS is The Big Bang Theory, by the way.

Deadspin has a copy of the manuscript for the for the pilot episode.  Initial reviews are: It ain’t good.  But we’ve come to expect that from CBS, so it’s not really a shock now is it?  Go check it out.

Fields disguises himself as regular Modell’s employee Leroy Jenkins, which makes one wonder why Fields has to work at Modell’s.  Doesn’t his rookie contract pay the rent in New York?  Oh, wait…probably not.

She hasn’t exactly taken the most direct route to her dream of becoming a professional referee, but 34-year-old Catherine Conti has been showing the league what it takes to be the first female zebra in the NFL.  According to an excellent article by Bill Reiter at FOX Sports, Conti’s dream started out as just a cute story she told her fellow college grads about her future.  It didn’t mean anything at the time.  But something grew out of that ‘lie’, as she calls it.  And by being in the right place at the right time on a couple of occasions, she got just the right nudge to make that dream a reality:

Every last bit of Catherine Conti — the charm, the humor, the confidence, the demons, the determination — now point her and her every fiber toward one goal: Becoming the first woman referee in the National Football League.

“Why me?” she said. “Well, God told me. Plain and simple. God told me.”

This is not some 34-year-old woman dreaming big dreams rooted only in fantasy. This is a goal that could very well happen.

“At her age and positioning, she’s at a perfect place,” said Mike Pereira, the former senior director of NFL officiating who now works for FOX as rules analyst. “And patience is an absolute virtue. And with the people now behind her, she’s got a heckuva chance to get there.”

From Pop Warner to high school to small-time college and now Division I, Conti is realizing her dream to be what she calls a ‘yard marker’ in the NFL.  It’s definitely a good thing.  In a few years, the NFL will need some new blood, as if it doesn’t already.  More than a few of those guys are getting old and fat.  Seriously, have you seen Ed Hochuli’s arms lately?  Certainly not the arm cannons he sported just a few seasons ago.

Two-time reigning Tour de France champion Alberto Contador failed a drug test back on July 21st for the illegal steroid clenbuterol.

The Spaniard will hold a press conference later today to address the allegations.

Contador is blaming the positive drug test on contaminated food.  The UCI experts have been running additional tests, and in correlation with all of the drug tests he passed during the Tour, seem to think that it might have actually been contaminated food.

If, however, it is found that Contador is guilty of doping he would likely be stripped of the 2010 Tour de France victory and suspended from the sport for a period of time.

If stripped of his win, then second place finisher Andy Schleck would be awarded the victory (until it’s found out that he too doped, and so on, and so on).

The last TDF winner to be stripped of the title was American Floyd Landis who tested positive for doping following his win.

LeBron James in the recent (Sep 2010) issue of GQ opened up somewhat about a return to play for Cleveland, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, and the happiness in his face since bolting the Cavs for the Miami Heat.

The article by J.R. Moehringer didn’t reveal anything earth shattering but here is what King James had to say:

LeBron James on how those close to him view his decision: “They’re happy to see me happy. That’s what they can see in my face. They say: ‘It’s been a while since we’ve seen you look like that.’ ”

…on Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert: “I don’t think he ever cared about LeBron. My mother always told me: ‘You will see the light of people when they hit adversity. You’ll get a good sense of their character.’ Me and my family have seen the character of that man.”

…on imagining himself playing for the Cavaliers again one day: “If there was an opportunity for me to return and those fans welcome me back, that’d be a great story.… Maybe the ones burning my jersey were never LeBron fans anyway.”

…on how growing up helped him learn about facing adversity and staying humble: “That’s what keeps me humble, because I know my background, know what my mother went through. I never get too high on my stardom or what I can do. My mom always says, and my friends say, ‘You’re just a very low-maintenance guy.’”

In a move that has left everyone but the Miami Heat with a bad taste in their mouth, LeBron James announced during a 1-hour live show on ESPN called ‘The Decision’ that he was leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to join forces with Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade in Miami.

I thought there was no way he would leave his hometown Cavs in a complete state of disarray, but LeBron has never handled pressure well.  He likely will win a NBA Championship with the Heat but he won’t win it as THE man.

The men’s 2011 Final Four will take place in Houston, Texas on April 2-4, 2011.  The event will be co-hosted by the University of Houston and Rice University.

The logo for college basketball’s biggest event was recently this week to – well – less than stellar feedback.  The only thing missing from it was Buzz Lightyear popping out of it.
