If it’s just a question of money, then Mark Cuban has your answer.  Late last year the Dallas Maverick’s owner registered a new company to challenge the Bowl Championship Series in college football.  It’s called Radical Football.

I know.  I’m getting flashbacks of that awful Extreme Football League that Vince McMahon of the WWE vomited all over NBC a few years back.  Why is it that grown men with too much money make it a point to pick names for their products that only a 12-year-old would think is cool?  Cuban’s company might sound like football played on unicycles powering down Pike’s Peak, but the idea behind the mighty-morphin-power-ranger-esque name is actually pretty practical.  According to ESPN:

Cuban created that company in late December, registering it in Texas on Dec. 28. That was two weeks after the billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner said that he was “actively interested but in the exploratory stage” of creating and funding a playoff system to crown a champion for major college football.

Cuban’s basic idea is to keep the bowl system but make it more profitable for programs to qualify for his playoffs than to participate in a bowl.

“Put $500 million in the bank and go to all the schools and pay them money as an option,” Cuban told ESPNDallas.com in December. “Say, ‘Look, I’m going to give you X amount every five years. In exchange, you say if you’re picked for the playoff system, you’ll go.’”

To his credit, Cuban actually addresses the main problem that keeps the BCS in place over any kind of playoff scenario in Division I football: money.  It’s a bit cynical, but it’s also right up his alley.  He’s used to throwing money at things.  Just look at his basketball team.  That said, if anyone can put together a “playoff fund” it’s the flamboyant Mark Cuban.  Say what you like about his ownership style, but the man knows how to market his products…even with names only a speed freak could love.

For the sake of all you supporters of a college football playoff system, lets’ just hope Radical Football lasts a little longer than the XFL.

Johnson, who had mixed success coaching the Mavericks, will take over the Nets as they attempt to build a winner there under Russian owner Mikhail Prokhorov, who has a five year plan for winning the NBA Championship.

Johnson proves that perhaps only owners with obscene amounts of money (former employer Mark Cuban) like to hire the NBA’s version of Stuart Little.

Washington Redskins bench warmer extraordinaire Robert Henson had one of the bigger Twitter fails in pro-athlete tweeting on Sunday after the Skins 9-7 win over the lowly St. Louis Rams.  Many Redskins fans during the second half booed presumably over the play calling of head coach Jim Zorn.

Henson, who has yet to ever play a down in the NFL, took to tweeting his frustrations after the game, and in the process called Redskins fans “dim wits” and made fun of them for working at “Mcdonalds.”

All you fake half hearted Skins fan can . . . I won’t go there, but I dislike you very strongly, don’t come to Fed Ex to boo dim wits!!

No I didn’t play but I still made more than you in a year and you’d (gladly) switch spots with me in a second. …

I was talking to the fans (who) said the crazy stuff, I’m use (to heckling) but I’ve never been booed in my own stadium.

Again, that was for the half hearted but if everyone wants to jump in, come on. The question is who are you to say you know what’s best for the team, and you work 9 to 5 at Mcdonalds [sic].

Henson humbly described himself in his Twitter bio as “one of the top performers” from Texas Christian.

I am a husband,father, and football player to sum it all up. I just finished college at Texas Christian University where I was one of the top performers.

I say 6th round draft picks who have yet to play a single minute in the NFL should quit pretending to be a somebody in the league before they are quickly 86′ed out of the league.  It is one thing for Terrell Owens or Chad Ochocinco to rant on Twitter, but Henson is a nobody and if anything  put his current job in jeopardy with his loose fingers.

The whole incident reminds me of Mark Cuban making a similar remark about those that work at Dairy Queen. The big difference being that Cuban has billions in the bank and he made it right by actually going to work at DQ one day for charity.

In the wake of Henson’s ‘Tweet-Gate’ he has deleted his account and apologized to the fans on his Facebook page and through the big boy media.
