Spikes’ agent Terry Watson has been doing damage control for his client the past few days and claims that Spikes is a high character guy and doing great things in the Boston community. (He didn’t release their names though, )

The scandal has already cost Spikes a Reebok marketing deal.

Dibble who is and always has been an idiot was just that in his comments on Strasburg, but did he deserve to get fired for them?  I think it comes down to the fact that Strasburg is the start of the organization and Dibble is dispensable and can be easily replaced.  Strasburg is a once in a blue moon pitching sensation.

An insider within the MTSU program says that Dasher took a $1,500 loan from a bookie.

He likely isn’t done playing for the Blue Raiders unless the NCAA says otherwise, but he likely will miss several games.

It has to be troubling and eye-opening to the NCAA that the loan came from a bookie.  Any time gambling or a bookie is involved it causes concerns about fixing games, etc.

Reportedly there was no involvement with a sports agent.

The suspension is for sure a big hit to the rising MTSU program.  They start their season at home against Minnesota and Austin Peay, before playing on the road to play Memphis and Louisiana-Lafayette.

The rest of the schedule includes Troy (H), Georgia Tech (A), Louisiana Monroe (H), Arkansas State (A), North Texas (H), Western Kentucky (A), Florida Atlantic (H), and Florida International (A)

The Nationals made Strasburg the #1 pick in the 2009 draft and signed him to a record $15 million signing bonus.

The word out of the Bluff City tonight is that the NCAA has reversed its previous ruling and that top 10 recruit Will Barton will be allowed to play for Josh Pastner and the University of Memphis Tigers this fall.

Source just told me Will Barton has been cleared to play for Memphis this season. The NCAA reversed its ruling.

Barton news is confirmed. Memphis sending out press release momentarily.

I heard a week ago the NCAA “missed something” among the 2,000 pages that were submitted on Barton. Whatever it was, obviously they found.

Certainly an eventful day on the U of M basketball beat. There have been a lot of them the past four years, have there not?

Barton’s eligibility obviously huge for Memphis on many levels, but his impact on their rebounding might be biggest of all.

The NCAA had ruled Barton ineligible on August 8th for taking too many semesters to graduate high school.

Great news for the Tigers for sure.  Barton handled the initial ruling with a lot of grace and maturity. By all reports he is a good kid, happy for him.

The Feds have decided to come hard after Roger Clemens for perjury. The Federal government plans to indict Clemens for lying to Congress, under oath, about taking performance enhancing drugs during Feb 2008 congressional hearings according to The New York Times.

The indictment comes nearly two and half years after Clemens and his former trainer Brian McNamee testified under oath at a hearing before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, directly contradicting each other about whether Clemens had used the banned substances.

The Department of Justice investigated Clemens on 7 different claims ‘The Rocket’ made before Congress and in depositions before their hearings, they were:

1. Clemens’ testimony that he had never taken performance-enhancing drugs;
2. His statement that McNamee injected him with the painkiller lidocaine;
3. His statement that team trainers gave him pain injections;
4. His statement that he received many vitamin B-12 injections;
5. His statement that he never discussed HGH with Brian McNamee;
6. His statement that he was not at then-teammate Jose Canseco’s home during a party which took place in early June 1998; and
7. His statement that he was never told about George Mitchell’s request to speak to him prior to the release of the Mitchell Report.

Clemens could face serious jail time if convicted on the perjury charges.

But get ready, once the indictment comes down, we will have a Roger Clemens mugshot.

If all goes according to plan, Favre could play in the Vikings 2nd preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.

LeBron James in the recent (Sep 2010) issue of GQ opened up somewhat about a return to play for Cleveland, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, and the happiness in his face since bolting the Cavs for the Miami Heat.

The article by J.R. Moehringer didn’t reveal anything earth shattering but here is what King James had to say:
