Reports are coming in that the Kansas City Chiefs will soon be looking for a new offensive coordinator as Charlie Weis has decided to leave the team. Apparently, Weiss will be joining the University of Florida and head coach Will Muschamp for its O-coordinator position. That’s right. Leaving the NFL…for the same job…in college.

Obviously, there has to be more to the story than Weis just missing the college ranks. The job change will undoubtedly come with a considerable decrease in pay and prestige. However, it also comes with a little less responsibility and likely a lot less pressure. According to NBC Sports, its possible – if not probable – that Weis and Chiefs head coach Todd Haley simply don’t see eye-to-eye. Haley can be a bit of a micro-manager and, even though it’s difficult to argue with the results this season, Weis probably doesn’t much like that kind of oversight at this point in his career. Weis will, of course, be staying on throughout the Chiefs playoff run…however long it may be.

Oddly enough, the rumours are flying that former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels is in the running to replace Weis. Given the recent Haley/McDaniels history and the fact that McDaniels was fined for essentially cheating, this match up seems unlikely. But his skills as a head coach notwithstanding, McDaniels has an excellent offensive mind – especially in regard to the quarterback. And his sacking in Denver might have been just humbling enough to make him a good soldier in Haley’s army.

And it’s now official as multiple outlets are reporting Meyer’s resignation including Gator Zone:

Meyer, 46, informed Florida Athletic Director Jeremy Foley over the weekend that he was contemplating resigning and the two finalized the plan Tuesday. Meyer told the Gators of his decision during a team meeting earlier this afternoon. UF has scheduled a press conference for 6 p.m. at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium where Meyer and Foley will address the media.

Meyer will remain Florida’s head coach through the Outback Bowl in Tampa on New Year’s Day.

“I have been a Division I football coach for the last 25 years and, during that time, my primary focus has been helping my teams win titles,” Meyer said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, and I am a fierce competitor to my core. At this time in my life, however, I appreciate the sacrifices my 24/7 profession has demanded of me, and I know it is time to put my focus on my family and life away from the field. The decision to step down was a difficult one.

After all, isn’t that his new December tradition? He quit the team last year for ‘health’ reasons only to announce days later he would be back coaching the Gators in the Swamp in 2010.

Mississippi State Bulldogs fans have to be nervous, as their head coach Dan Mullen will likely be tapped to replace Meyer at Florida. Mullen was the offensive coordinator at Florida, under Meyer, when the Gators were actually good.

Mullen will be eager to get away from the Cam Newton fallout brought on by Mississippi State alum. He also would have to be thrilled to go to Florida or Miami where he could actually recruit. Not much has happened in Starkville since the Super Wal-Mart went in there several years ago.

Top Candidates to Replace Urban: Dan Mullen, Bob Stoops, Chris Peterson

This could be a big loss for Florida on their defensive front. Coach Urban Meyer isn’t expected to address Dunlap’s arrest again until after Tuesday’s practice.

After suffering a concussions two weeks ago against Kentucky, many are wondering whether Tim Tebow can or should play this weekend at Death Valley. The top ranked Gators are taking on the number 4 ranked LSU Tigers. Florida coach Urban Meyer has stated that it will likely be a game-time decision.

Meyer said there would be ongoing evaluation and communication up until the 8 p.m. ET kickoff Saturday.

Meyer said he would err on the side of caution on whether to play Tebow even if the quarterback gets medical clearance. Tebow underwent more testing Wednesday morning.

Meyer also said the crowd noise at Tiger Stadium could be a factor.

Personally, I would lean on the side of caution and not play Tebow. Win or lose I cannot see anybody keeping Florida out of the National Championship game with a minimum 1 loss assuming they win the SEC Championship. I would want to make sure that Tebow is completely healthy for that game.

If Tebow does not play, it is not a given for LSU. Backup QB John Brantley is very capable. LSU will also have to solve their offensive woes against a very stingy and veteran Florida defense.

I obtained this autograph from Tim c/o his home address in 25 days during the summer after his sophmore year.

Florida Savior quarterback Tim Tebow was knocked out of the Florida Gators game against the Kentucky Wildcats when he was leveled with a helmet-to-helmet hit.

Taylor Wyndham lead with his helmet as he made contact with Tebow’s helmet as Tim fell to the ground his head was snapped forward when it hit the back of a lineman’s leg.

The concussion left Tebow motionless on the field as trainers and the entire Gators team went onto the field to assist their wounded leader. Tebow finally raised up and was led to the sidelines where he sat and stared into the twilight zone as he seemed totally out of it. He left the game with 12:41 remaining in the 3rd quarter.

Tebow was also captured by ESPN’s cameras puking almost nonstop on the sideline before he was finally led off the field. He was then taken to an area hospital in an ambulance. There has been no official word yet on his status or the exact injury sustained.

Up until that point Tebow was having a great game. He had rushed for 123 yards on 16 carries and had 2 touchdowns.
